If you walk through our front door, amble along to the kitchen and step out the back door, you will find a staircase that leads you up and up to our vast roof terrace.
Three sun loungers await you as well as two cushioned pallet sofas, complete with backrests that used to be the original shutters on the house’s windows – we love a good upcycle! So whether you want a dedicated tanning session or a few sociable drinks and a debrief of the day’s waves, you’ll find a spot to get comfy in.
Summer wouldn’t be Summer without a BBQ would it? So of course you can find one on our roof terrace. Many a great night has been had with the grill going, home-made sangria by the jug load and delicious burgers and fresh fish from the local market. All set to the backdrop of spectacularly sublime sunsets that are a special benefit of being this far west. We are amongst the last people in Portugal to watch the sun go down and more often than not it’s a breathtaking show.
Lining one side of the roof terrace wall are two flower boxes, built by owner/surf coach/handiest man in Maçãs, Luis Eyre. Unfortunately we had to dismantle the wonderful feature wooden wall in one of the bedrooms but instead of seeing it chopped up for firewood we gave the planks a new purpose and they were reborn as homes for pretty plant life.
The last roof terrace feature (for now) is a chiminea, to take the chill off when the sun has gone to sleep. Enjoy Summer nights lit by the firelight, warming your toes listening to the Atlantic Ocean, one of the best soundtracks in the world.
